10 Christian Indie Artists Who Helped Me Fall in Love with God

Ri-An

Ri-An’s music has that nice, warm sound, often drizzled with lovely and tasteful jazzy elements, complete with a lo-fi r&b groove. Her creative renditions of the classic hymns have accompanied me several times in my daily walk with God, and will probably continue to for a long while.

Trulah

Trulah’s music has a special place in my heart, having discovered her during a very difficult season in my life. Quite frankly, there’s no other Christian artist I know like Trulah. Her voice is distinct, and her songwriting really pierces through the heart of a true crucified-with-Christ Christian.

Praise Lubangu

Praise has one of the kindest hearts I know. And that certainly comes out of her creativity in music. If it wasn’t for her, No Good Thing wouldn’t be as wonderful as it is, and I’m thankful to be on the receiving end of her lush harmonies that feel like a warm embrace. Being no stranger to the sufferings of the Christian life, she will always take the opportunity to encourage the brethren to endure and have faith through her songs.

Via Music

When I first heard their music, my body could not stop from grooving, and my face could not help but stank. Via Music makes me so happy that such talent is being dedicated to the Lord. Their pop r&b style stands out to me, and keeps me joyful in the Lord even on days when I just wanna vibe and sing.

DAMIAN

DAMIAN has a knack for capturing the emotion behind a song, and expressing it in their own indie electronic/synth pop way that immediately puts me in a state of worship. “Friend Forever” has to be my favorite song of theirs, and it has been the soundtrack to my intimate moments with Jesus.

Jeremiah Paltan

If you like Christian lofi r&b, then you must listen to Mr. Paltan. With voice like butter, Jeremiah has often reminded me of how the sweetest love songs truly deserve to be sung to God—and I’m glad he is doing just that.

Michael Bayron

This producer-singer-songwriter from the Philippines makes such heartfelt music for God like he is just inviting you into his quiet time with Jesus. It’s the way that Michael is able to capture deep longing feelings for God in beautiful soundscapes that really keeps him on my worship playlists.

Spencer Annis

Spencer’s music is yet another kind that makes me feel safe and cozy with God. He has a way of writing music that tugs at your heartstrings and reminds you of your first Love. With that distinct tone and warm voice, you will want to stay in God’s presence for as long as possible, with his music in the background.

Erica Bostick

Erica’s music was one of my first Christian indie discoveries. More on the pop side, her voice is tremendously captivating, and sings the perfect melodies to the moments in my Christian walk where I need to let out a good cry (while occasionally making a stank face, because the beats do hit hard sometimes). Putting prayers into words we only we wish we could write, along with beautiful melodies and vocal runs that we only wish we could sing, Erica’s songs are a favorite of mine to lip sync to in my emotional seasons with God.

Jonathan Ogden

Last but not least, of course, Mr. Ogden, whom you could say is the prince of Christian indie. What I love most about Jonathan’s music is how creative and diverse it is, yet tied cohesively well by the word of God, and his very distinct voice. Much of his music has been faithful to the Scriptures—oftentimes taking them directly from the text. My personal favorite will always be his Seasons EPs, since those have been the main soundtrack of my earliest days as a new Christian.
